What are age spots?

Age spots (solar lentigines) are flat, well-defined brown spots that usually appear after 40. Despite the name, they are caused by accumulated sun damage — which is why they appear on the backs of the hands, face, forehead, neck and décolleté.
How do age spots fade?
They do not fade on their own and creams rarely remove them. A pigment laser breaks up the melanin; the spot darkens, crusts and sheds, revealing lighter skin. Hand and face spots can often be treated in one session.
Prevention
Daily SPF 50 on face and hands, and avoiding midday sun and sunbeds, greatly reduce new spots. Raised, changing, bleeding or itching spots must be examined by a dermatologist first.

What our clients say
Frequently Asked Questions
Age Spot Treatment – FAQ
How do age spots fade?
They do not fade on their own; laser is the most effective way, often in one session.
How do age spots on the hands fade?
Laser breaks them up and they shed within 1–2 weeks; protect hands with sunscreen daily.
Is there a definitive solution?
Laser is the most targeted solution; treated spots do not return, but sun protection prevents new ones.
What helps against age spots?
SPF 50 and antioxidant skincare slow darkening; laser is needed to remove existing spots.
Are age spots the same as sun spots?
Medically both are solar lentigines; we distinguish them from freckles and melasma at assessment.
How many sessions?
One session if suitable; deep spots may need a touch-up.
Will it leave marks?
Temporary crusts are normal; aftercare minimises risks.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the number of spots and the area; we confirm it at assessment.
