What are sun spots and why do they form?

Sun spots (solar lentigines) are well-defined brown spots that form where years of UV exposure increase melanin locally — on the face, forehead, upper lip, arms, hands, décolleté and shoulders.
Do sun spots fade?
They do not fade on their own. Creams and sunscreen limit darkening but do not remove existing pigment; a pigment laser breaks it up in a targeted way.
How does the laser work?
The spot darkens, crusts and sheds within 7–14 days, revealing lighter skin. For suitable candidates all areas are treated in one session.
Not every brown spot is a sun spot
Brown spots can also be freckles, melasma or post-acne marks. We tell them apart at your assessment. Spots that change, bleed or itch must be examined by a dermatologist first.

Recovery
Recovery timeline
- First 24–48 hours
Mild redness and warmth
Mild redness and darker-looking spots are normal; a cool compress helps.
- Days 2–7
Darkening and fine crusts
Spots darken and turn into fine, coffee-ground-like crusts — an expected part of the process.
- Days 7–14
Crusts shed
Crusts fall off, revealing lighter skin. Sun protection is most critical now.
- Weeks 4–6
Result and check-up
Tone settles; we review the result together at your check-up.
Aftercare
- 1Avoid direct sun for 2 weeks; wear a wide-brimmed hat outdoors.
- 2Use broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily and reapply every 2–3 hours outdoors.
- 3Do not pick or scratch crusts; let them shed naturally.
- 4Avoid sauna, steam room, sunbeds, intense exercise and pools for a week.
- 5Pause peels, acids and retinol unless recommended.
- 6Keep skin cleansed gently and moisturised.
- 7Keep your check-up so we can review the result together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Sun Spot Treatment – FAQ
Do sun spots go away?
They do not fade on their own. Laser breaks up the pigment and most spots clearly lighten or disappear; treated spots do not return.
What is the definitive solution for sun spots?
A pigment laser is the most targeted solution; daily SPF 50 keeps the result.
How do sun spots on the face fade?
Creams limit darkening; laser is most effective and can treat the whole face in one session if suitable.
How many sessions?
One session for suitable candidates; deep spots may need a touch-up.
Can sun spots on arms and hands be treated?
Yes, arms and backs of hands can be included.
What about spots on the upper lip?
Upper-lip spots are often melasma and need a different approach; we assess first.
Can white sun spots be lasered?
No — white spots are pigment loss; a dermatologist should assess them.
Will it leave marks?
Temporary darkening and crusts are normal; aftercare minimises risks.
How much does it cost?
It depends on area and density; full-face plans average 100,000–150,000 TRY excl. VAT, smaller areas cost less.
Can it be done in summer?
Autumn and winter are ideal; with strict sun protection it can be planned year-round, but not right before a holiday or on tanned skin.
