What is melasma and why is it stubborn?

Melasma appears as symmetrical brown-grey patches on cheeks, forehead, nose and upper lip, far more common in women; in pregnancy it is called the “mask of pregnancy”.
Triggers
Hormones, UV and visible light, heat, genetics and irritation.
Why not aggressive treatment?
Melasma-prone skin reacts to heat and inflammation; high-energy treatments can cause rebound darkening. We use gentle, spaced sessions supported by home care.
Does it go away completely?
Melasma can be chronic. It can be clearly reduced but may return if triggers persist.
